Lady Wildcats stomped by herd of Mustangs

Updated: Sep 12, 2022

The Greater Latrobe Lady Wildcats Varsity Soccer team went into Plum with high spirits, only to have them trampled by a very talented Plum Mustangs Varsity team. The final outcome was apparent from the outset of the matchup as the Plum Mustangs' senior forward Annabel Arhin scored within three minutes of the start of the game. Another Plum senior, Camryn Rogers, would add to the Mustangs' score line with a goal of her own soon after Annabel Arhin.

The two teams made sure this was a physical match. The physicality led to the Lady Wildcats having five fouls on the night and the Mustangs having six fouls. The fouls produced by the Mustangs led to the Lady Wildcats first goal of the evening. Greater Latrobe's Sophmore defender Ava Yurko delivered a free kick that soared into the top right of the Mustang goal, and made the matchup 2-1. The momentum would not stay with the Lady Wildcats for long as the Plum Mustangs stampeeded down the field later and Annabel Arhin would notce her second goal of the game. This led to the two teams to go into half time with score 3-1 in favor of the Plum Mustangs.

The second half of the game was a similar story to the first. A goal early in the second half of play was acredited to the fancy footwork of senior Kaitlyn Killinger, and this extended the Mustangs lead to 4-1. The Lady Wildcats did their best to close the scoring gap with a late goal from captian Regan Reilly. Unfortunately, the momentum swing was not enough to push the Lady Wildcats ahead and the game ended with the Plum Mustangs defending their undefeated streak.

The Mustangs now sit with a record of 3-0 and will travel to Montour to clash with the Spartans. The Lady Wildcats drop to a record of 1-1-1 and prepare to travel to Mt. Lebanon and face the Blue Devils.
